Antenatal & Postnatal Care

Antenatal & Postnatal Care

Antenatal Care

My Private Midwife can provide you with antenatal care during your pregnancy in the comfort of your own home, at a time convenient to you. Depending on the package you choose, this care can either supplement or replace your current care under the NHS. Unlike NHS care, choosing My Private Midwife provides you with continuity of care with your dedicated midwives. All your home visits are personalised to meet your needs. We take our time in listening to you, answer your questions, and ensuring that you have the very highest standard of midwifery care.

During visits, we can discuss a variety of topics including nutritional advice, birth plans, labour preparation, as well as preparing for your baby's arrival. Antenatal home visits will include full health checks including monitoring the wellbeing and development of your baby, by listening to their heartbeat, assessing growth, and assessment of your baby’s position in the last few weeks before labour. We can also perform blood pressure checks, which are carried out to ensure you have a safe pregnancy as well as assess the wellbeing and development of your baby. We can also carry out urine tests that perform a function of assessing conditions such as kidney infections, dehydration, and preeclampsia.

Postnatal Care

My Private Midwife can provide you with specialist postnatal care in your home, to meet the needs of you and your baby. It can supplement or replace the care provided by the NHS. Unlike NHS care, choosing an independent midwife provides you with continuity of care with your dedicated midwife. All visits will be personalised to meet your needs, which are done by listening to what you want.

During visits, we can discuss a variety of topics including recovery post-birth, nutrition, feeding techniques, and baby development. We also carry out essential postnatal mother and baby checks including baby weights, jaundice monitoring, and monitoring the health and development of your baby. We can also perform new-born blood spot screening which screens for genetic, metabolic and developmental disorders in new-born babies.

My Private Midwife can also support and give you expertise as well as guidance for feeding, be it breast milk or formula. Although we encourage expectant mothers to try breastfeeding, we do understand that it is not suitable, or there are situations, which can prevent it in certain circumstances. We also support and champion you with any choice you make.
Please get in touch with us if you have any queries about our services, and how we can help support you during and after your pregnancy.
